Currently, Nigel is constructing the final commission for the Secret Gardeners series at Pine Lodge Gardens, in St Austell.
Here you can see the steel spider being made. This magnificent arachnid will sit in a two metre web between the natural area of the gardens and the amazing pinetum. The web currently under construction will be galvanised so that the spider, once colured and finished will stand out.
Due to very important, metal sculpturing business going on in the depths of Cornwall, Nigel’s son and daughter in law are standing in for this week’s Nigel’s News!
As newly weds… so far… so good! As for our wedding day, it couldn’t have been more wonderful! All newly weds must say the same, but with an metal worker and artist in the family, we really had something special in store for us..
With so many of the ‘Cornish contingent’ destined to bust a few moves at our wedding reception, we knew our table names needed that little touch of home so named them after our favourite places in Cornwall. From ‘Falmouth’, to ‘Maenporth’ , ‘Durgan’ and the ‘Helford’, we literally had a table with your name on it! But what could we possibly use for a table name holders? Cue NigelWills.com (his artist’s cape blowing in the wind, posed for the next metal making challenge)! We told Nigel we needed something beautiful, something unique, something perfect for a wedding … and of course he came up with 10 gorgeous, hand crafted metal rose table name holders that blew us away.
They were so beautiful it was one of the first thing our guests told us they loved. Our top table rose is so beautiful even now it has pride of place on our mantle!
So if you’re looking for that perfect gift for the soon to be Mr & Mrs, or perhaps you need that special something to give your wedding that wow factor, then have a chat with Nigel. He’s creative and talented and it’s been such great fun watching our bespoke pieces emerge from molten metal into the perfect wedding gift! It’s something we’ll treasure for years to come. So all that’s left to say is that we love him dearly, are truly grateful and we know you’ll love your hand crafted ‘Nigel Wills’ metal sculpture… because we do.
Isn’t it time you enjoyed you’re very own piece of Cornwall?
Love Mr & Mrs Wills (junior) xx
Welcome to my world of hand crafted metal art and sculptures!
I was born in Falmouth, Cornwall and as most ‘Janners’, the sea has always been a huge part of my life but only recently would I consider myself as an artist. My wife would say I’ve always been a P… Artist, but she’s still in tow, 40 years and counting, bless ’er.
I left school at 14, much to the relief of my teachers. I always dreamt of being a fisherman but ended up working with a local firm R.L. Dale and Sons. For those of you non locals, they were the main Ford dealers in Cornwall and although it wasn’t a career afloat, it was a purdy big deal. Personally, I think I actually got the job at R.L. Dales because I was the only one brave enough to ask to be a panel beater.
After working for twenty five years in the car trade, man and boy, I ended up at the top of my game working on top of the range cars worth more than I could earn in a couple of years. Life’s funny like that, I suppose…..
Any ‘ow that’s where I started, now I am in galleries and restaurants throughout the county, places I’d never have dreamed of even walking into, let alone being sold in.
You’ll ‘ave to hang on for next time, when-I’ll tell ‘ee, ‘ow it happened,
Till then, enjoy browsing and ‘I’ll seth ee’……..
