McCain Interiors commission June 16, 2017 by Nigel Wills Leave a Comment McCain commission shoal early stages. Hand cut from sheet steel each individual fish is shaped using hammers and mallets, definitely a labour of love. Shoal assembled before tempering, markings and eyes added. No less than 11 shoal designs presented before this particular shape and combination was accepted by the designer. Completed shoal contains fish of three different sizes and three different shapes. By using the fins of each of the fish as a weld point, the shoal now becomes one coherent fluid shape. Each Fish has been tempered and the colours you see are from the heat of the torch. Individually marked by hand each fish has a unique pattern just as mother nature intended. Hand painted glass eyes complete the piece. This is now on its way to be delivered and hung by the artist in one of McCain Interiors client’s new home. Beautiful.
