Well, the day has finally arrived. Nigel has retired from working at The Old Smithy Forge, Mawnan Smith.
We would like to say how much we appreciated the Trustees of the Anvil Trust who gathered at the forge yesterday to convey their thanks to Nigel for all his hard work and dedication over the past three years and also for the lovely gift and card.
In particular Martin Tremain, who within his kind words, highlighted some of the feelings many of you had conveyed to Nigel about his time at the forge. The Smithy had become so much more than just a workshop, it became a place of genuine interest within the village.
A place where Nigel, clearly proud of the village traditions and culture could be found to answer questions and inform visitors and locals alike. A place to drop in for a chat and a cuppa tea, a focus for local events and even a choir rehearsal venue. We have both thoroughly enjoyed working at the forge and will miss our regulars and visitors alike.
Nigel will still be working on his sculptures from home in Budock, but not taking any commissions for a while at least.
Again, many thanks to all our customers and clients who have supported us during our time at the forge. We wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
