Sometimes you wonder if you can actually resurrect some of the projects brought into the forge?
This was certainly one of those challenges. A lady came into the forge a few months ago, enquiring if I could refurbish an old pair of garden gates, for her house on the Fal.
The house had been completely and beautifully restored in a New England style, a project that had taken many months and a lot of effort. The original gates had been carefully stored throughout the renovations in the hope that they could somehow be part of this house’s rebirth.
As you can see by the first few photos, the metal work was almost beyond saving, but they definitely had something going for them.
Lyn carefully crafted a design that reflected the gates original style and we set about the refurb. The old scroll work was replaced by the hand forged waves across the base. The rotten framework was painstakingly repaired or replaced. Old rust ground away and the gates resealed and powder coated in Anthracite Grey. The owners are delighted that something of the original house has been given this new lease of life.
Well done to them for taking the time and effort to revive such a beautiful pair of old gates. It was certainly our pleasure to be part of their rebirth, we hope you like them too.
