The pictures and text below tell the story of a striking commission for a garden dragon.
Sometimes you get a client who brings you an idea, that is so out there, you simply cannot resist. A sleeping dragon for the garden, must be non threatening, friendly but realistic. Ideally curled up as if sleeping. Below are a few photographs of the start of this striking commission.
The garden dragon is beginning to take shape, Initially, Nigel had hoped to construct the entire scaled body, using recycled cycle cogs. However, after spending an entire week and only constructing the narrowest part of the sculpture, he reverted to building the rest of the body using sheet steel welded to his initial frame. Still, it is going to be amazing when it is finished.
The size of the garden dragon is approx. 70cm x 70cm x 45cm, and the cost was £1,800. The dragon is made from a combination of recycled steel and steel plate, with hand-0painted glass eyes. The work is tempered and coloured with the torch, lacquered and wax oiled for protection.
