A real challenge of working in flat sheet steel, is to translate the fluid movement of a living creature from 2D to 3D. Here you can see by using traditional hand forming methods alongside a sculpted frame, Nigel has created the twisting sinuous curves of a dog fish. Entitled ‘The Sea Highwayman’, it cuts a gorgeous shape either on a flat surface or in this case flowing up the wall.
A really striking feature of Nigel’s sculptures are the glass eyes that he uses.
They are hand painted with multifaceted colours and tints to closely resemble a real eye. Each eye fits into a purpose made sculpted metal socket for that super realistic effect.
The sculptures are lacquered with a long-lasting protective gloss or semi matte finish depending on client choice and design purpose.
